The function of the plug rod is mainly used for the opening and closing of the tundish, in addition to automatic control of the flow of molten steel from the tundish to the crystallizer, but also through the argon blowing hole of the plug rod, the tundish blowing argon and other inert gases, the plug rod also has the function of controlling the flow of steel and purification.
The overall stopper material is generally aluminum carbon. The head of the stopper rod is provided with an argon blowing hole or a vent plug. During pouring, argon is blown from the stopper rod hole to the immersion nozzle through the blowing hole or the vent plug. Argon enters the molten steel in a finely dispersed form, which can reduce the accumulation of Al2O3, reduce the deposition in the immersion nozzle, and prolong the service life of the whole stopper rod.
In order to meet the needs of continuous casting of different refining conditions and steel grades, the overall plug rod head has different rod head materials such as aluminum carbon, magnesium carbon, spinel carbon and zirconium carbon, and the rod body material is mostly aluminum carbon material. In some long-life tundish continuous casting, the part of the stopper rod body will be based on actual needs, and the rod body will be compounded with slag wire material to improve the anti-erosion ability of the stopper rod body.
